Dallas’ Urban Forest Advisory Committee (UFAC) is announcing its Citizen Forester Program for area residents interested in trees.  The program, in its second year, trains citizen volunteers on how to care for and preserve the city’s trees and urban forests.

The Citizen Forester classes are a combination of classroom instruction and actual field training that enables citizens to learn basic tree skills to protect trees in their neighborhood while also advocating the importance of Dallas’ urban forests.  The practical topics include Tree Identification, planting and pruning skills, and the benefits of Dallas trees. Additionally, the program also addresses the important subject of appropriate tree plantings near utility lines—which can prevent unpopular, yet often necessary, tree prunings.

Quincy Holloway, Speaker
3 Billion Renewable Energy was started by Quincy Holloway in May of 2007. Quincy has owned and operated a 3kW PV array since March of 2007 on his home in Benbrook, Texas. Currently, 3 Billion has partnered with Texas Eagle Construction, Meridian Energy Systems, and Grassroots Eco Advisors to bring PV to the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Quincy’s discussion and presentation will track the cost of installing a PV system on a typical suburban home in North Texas, its estimated payback, monthly reductions, and some of the behavioral patterns adopted by a family to increase the system's value. In this course you will learn what it will cost to add solar to your home, a general overview of what the systems do, and why it's cheaper to go solar than simply pay your bills month in and month out. Bring your electric bill and find out what you could expect to pay for a system and what it could potentially save you in the long run.
*RSVP to Meghna Tare at (214) 671-8977.
